The Shamrock House has a rich history that dates back to 1938, when it was founded by Patrick Kellegher. Patrick was employed by the Long Island Railroad and had a partnership in a bar named The Three Musketeers in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. He was so taken with the beauty of the area and its likeness to his native County Longford that he purchased the Central Hotel in East Durham in 1938, renaming it The Shamrock House. Since then, The Shamrock House has been the landmark in the town of East Durham, specializing in meeting the vacation needs of three generations. The Kellegher family has been at the helm for over 70 years, providing high-quality, friendly service in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

In 2009, John & Sue Quirk of East Durham purchased The Shamrock House from the Kellegher family, continuing the tradition of excellence. In 2014, Irish natives Emma and Larry Molloy became the new owners, bringing with them the values associated with Irish tradition. Today, The Shamrock House remains a place where guests can enjoy the hospitality and service in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
