Our History

Charles Street Supply was founded in 1948 by a salesman named Dick Gurnon and his business partner, who opened a tiny hardware store in a basement on Charles Street. Dick began working part-time at the store and eventually became a partner in 1952. The store moved to a larger location at 43 Charles Street in the early 1950s, but was forced to relocate again in 1963 after a fire in the alley behind the store. The store reopened at its current location at 54 Charles Street with limited inventory, but has since grown to offer over 24,000 products. In 1985, the store expanded to include the space next door at 56 Charles Street, increasing its size to 2100 square feet on one floor.
