Recent Developments: Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC)

We wanted to take a moment to address recent concerns about a new canine respiratory disease that has been reported in our state. According to the Washington State Veterinarian, two confirmed cases of Atypical Canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC) have been observed in Washington state, with one of the confirmed cases in Snohomish county. Although this new respiratory disease has not been observed in our clinic, we strongly encourage you to be vigilant and watch for any sudden onset of symptoms in your pets. Common signs to be aware of include: coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing, nasal discharge, and lethargy. Should you notice any of these symptoms in your dogs, we ask that you reach out to us immediately to schedule an appointment for a thorough evaluation.

We also recommend that you take the following precautions with your dogs:

• Make sure your dogs are fully vaccinated and booster them annually for canine respiratory diseases.
• Keep away from congregations of dogs. This is a time to avoid dog parks, doggie daycare and boarding facilities if possible.
• Stay away from sick dogs and dogs with unknown travel or vaccination history.

Although this new illness of concern has an excellent recovery rate with very few canine deaths reported, and there is no indication it is a public health risk that might infect people, we are keeping a close eye on the situation and staying informed about any developments related to this new respiratory disease.

Fees charged for services are based on amounts needed to maintain the high quality of care we are proud to provide. Payment is required at the time services are rendered, and we accept Visa, MasterCard, cash, checks, and debit. We also offer a medical credit plan known as Care Credit.
