Pike's Mattress is a family-owned business that has been custom-building quality bedding in Evansville, Indiana for four generations. About Pike's Mattress

Our story began in 1946 when Bernard Pike and Hank Metzger, a furniture store owner and blacktop construction business owner, respectively, decided to buy a mattress factory. They moved the factory from Waterbury, Connecticut, to its new home in Evansville, Indiana, and began manufacturing mattresses, even though neither of them had any experience in the industry. Bernard's nephew, Charles "Charlie" Pike, who had some mattress manufacturing experience, went to work for Hank and Bernard after returning from his tour of duty in the US Army. With Charlie's help, the business grew into a fairly steady company.

In 1966, Hank patented the Queen & King size dual-quilted mattress (US Patent #3,274,625), and two years later, Charlie helped him invent a portable bale opener to open crates of mattress springs. In 1968, Charlie opted to become a business owner, risking it all and choosing to receive the mattress factory as payment for his percentage of the patent on the Portable Bale Opener (US Patent #3,550,237).

Charlie and Ginny's son, Steve Pike, grew up in the business and developed a passion for it. He started working in the boxspring buildup department when he was just six years old and continued to work alongside his parents throughout his life. Steve now leads the business, ensuring that every client receives the same quality of care and customization that has defined Pike's Mattress for years.
