Our Principal Engineer

Skot McDaniel, our principal engineer, believes that constructability is essential to good design. He forms a collaborative relationship with the architect and the contractor to ensure that the design is not only functional but also feasible to construct. Skot's driving principle is to provide a design that is not only efficient but also safe and durable.

• Seismic Retrofit: We provide seismic retrofit solutions for existing buildings to enhance their structural integrity and ensure safety in the event of an earthquake.
• New Construction: We provide structural engineering designs for new buildings, taking into account the architectural, functional, and economic requirements of the project.

Projects

Here are some of our notable projects:

• 580 Washington: We combined three brick and fieldstone structures totaling 20,000 square feet in downtown San Francisco in this seismic retrofit/remodel/condominium conversion. The final configuration included nine residential units and three commercial spaces.
• 700 Montgomery: We provided seismic retrofit and remodel services for a 12,500 square foot historic steel, cast iron, and masonry office and retail space in downtown San Francisco. The remodel included modification to all floors, access improvements, and conversion of the basement spaces to maximize usable floor space.
• Butterfly House: Set on five acres, the three pavilions, totaling 2,900 square feet, gently fan out in a semicircle. With 10-inch thick board-formed concrete walls and concrete floors, the home incorporates passive solar design.
• 8th & Howard: We provided structural engineering designs for this 5-story, 179,000 square foot building located in San Francisco. The building consists of ground floor leasable retail/commercial space, a childcare center with four stories of low-cost housing above.
• South San Francisco BART: We served as the Engineer of Record for the structural design for a two-level underground passenger station for the Bay Area Rapid Transit System.
• Marin Suites: We provided structural engineering services for this 1970s hotel, which was due for an update of its exterior facade. We also addressed extensive weather damage and existing construction defects.
