The Discovery Preschool

We are The Discovery Preschool, a learning community dedicated to nurturing young minds in a holistic and loving environment. Since our doors opened in 2007, we have been committed to creating a space where children can explore, discover, play, and create. Our mission is to foster independence, cooperation, and a love of learning in every child who walks through our doors.

Our Approach

At The Discovery Preschool, we believe that relationships are the foundation of a successful learning community. Our teachers build significant relationships with our students, providing a sense of belonging and security that allows for optimal learning. We take a holistic approach to nurturing young children, acknowledging that learning involves not only academic concepts but also social-emotional growth and development.

Our School

Our school is nestled on three acres of open space, surrounded by grass, trees, and mountains. We have an outdoor covered classroom built from the skills and contributions of our staff and families in 2020. Our outdoor area features an outdoor mud kitchen, garden boxes, and lots of uneven ground for kids to navigate and explore. Our classrooms inside are divided into learning disciplines that encourage exploration of art, building, math, science, and language.

Our Teachers

Our teachers are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and creative exploration. They spend a lot of time creating materials and spaces that encourage kids to wonder, experiment, play, and create. Our teachers lead by example, meeting kids where they are and encouraging them to grow. We believe in celebrating successes, loving and encouraging kids through challenges, and having high hopes for them.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is inspired by the natural world around us, influenced by science and the innate curiosity of young children. We learn about topics such as Farm and Fall, Geography, the Solar System, Dinosaurs, Our Bodies, Growing Things, Life Cycles, Sea Life, and more. We make connections to children's lives outside of school and invite them to share and explore topics in a deep and meaningful way.

At The Discovery Preschool, we believe in creating a learning community that celebrates each other's differences and grows together to explore the world around us. We are partners with parents to provide an amazing first-school experience for all kids who enter our doors. We believe in the importance of mutual respect, kindness, and understanding in our relationships with teachers, students, and families.
