At the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors (PHCC) of San Diego, we are dedicated to advancing and educating the plumbing and HVACR industry for society's health, safety, and comfort, while also protecting the environment. Our organization was founded on the principles of trust, integrity, and service, and we have been committed to these values for over 140 years.
Our History
Our story began in 1883, when the National Association of Master Plumbers was founded. This organization later became known as the PHCC. The San Diego chapter was established in 1892, and since then, we have been dedicated to providing training resources for plumbing and HVACR professionals in our local community. Over the years, we have continued to grow and evolve, always striving to improve the skills and knowledge of our members.
The PHCC of San Diego Academy
In 2013, we saw an opportunity to provide our local P-H-C tradesmen with a platform for continued education and growth through a Journey-Level plumbing apprentice program. This led to the formation of the PHCC of San Diego Academy, a 501(c)3 trade school that is federally accredited by the Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship Training. We utilize the NCCER curriculum and offer a range of programs, including a nine-month HVAC-R Certification program that follows a combination curriculum built by educators and HVAC technicians in the field.
Today, the Academy stands strong and steadfast with terrific staff, an improved curriculum, and a growing number of hands-on labs. We continue to add programs based on the needs of the industry, such as the Back-flow Certification. Our efforts also extend beyond the classroom, with an increased focus on community outreach specifically to San Diego County Agencies, high schools, and the military. Our office can also act as a recruiter for individuals seeking employment in the P-H-C industry, matching them with members based on their location, experience, and initiative.
