Unique and Special, Just Like You!

The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind is an exceptional institution dedicated to providing a high-quality education for students with sensory impairments. We believe that every child, regardless of their sensory limitations, deserves an education that helps them reach their full potential. Our mission is to arm students across the state with the tools needed to become world-class citizens, while supporting the whole child through enriching experiences.

Our school has a long history of delivering special education environments that cater to the unique needs of students who are deaf, blind, or sensory multi-disabled. Over the years, we have evolved to meet the changing educational needs of our students by incorporating advanced learning technologies and methods into our curriculum. Today, we serve more than 250 students on our Spartanburg campus and over 1,400 children through our statewide outreach programs.

To support our mission, we rely on the generosity of our donors and supporters. The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises money to supplement state and federal funding. We've contributed more than $15 million to offset the high costs associated with advanced instructional programs, technologies, and equipment, capital improvements, and personal student needs. These additional resources are vital in helping our school keep pace with the specific educational needs of children with hearing and sight impairments.

Our Services

We offer a range of services designed to support the educational and personal growth of our students. These include:

1. Instructional Resources: Our teachers utilize many additional resources to help our students learn. These resources include textbooks, educational software, and other materials that cater to the unique learning needs of our students.

2. Adaptive Technologies: Many of our students rely on adaptive technologies to help them learn. These technologies include assistive listening devices, Braille displays, and other specialized equipment that help our students access information and participate fully in the learning process.

3. Growth Experiences: We offer experiences that develop the whole student. These experiences include extracurricular activities, field trips, and community service projects that help our students develop important life skills and build confidence in their abilities.

How You Can Help

There are many ways you can support our mission and help us continue to provide a high-quality education for students with sensory impairments. Here are a few ways you can get involved:
