Seitz Eye Care, a trusted optometry practice based in Vernal, Utah, has been providing top-notch eye care services to the local community for over six decades. Originally established by Dr. Jack Seitz in 1960, the practice has since been passed down to his two sons (Dr. Ned and Dr. Gordon) and son-in-law (Tod), who continue to uphold the legacy of quality eye care that their father began.

Our History

Dr. Jack Seitz moved from St. George, Utah to Vernal with his wife, Mildred Seitz, in 1960 to work as an optometrist at Danes Optical. The office was originally located in the old Hotel Vernal on Main Street in Vernal, Utah. Dr. Jack quickly took over the business and renamed it Seitz Eye Care. His second youngest child, Dr. Gordon Seitz, joined him at Seitz Eye Care after graduating from Southern California College of Optometry a few years later in 1990. Dr. Neldon Seitz, the youngest child, joined the practice after graduating from the same optometry school in 1995. Tod Tesar, their brother-in-law and son-in-law, became a board-certified optician and joined the business before Dr. Jack sold the business to the three young men around 2001. Dr. Jack continued to work at Seitz Eye Care with his family until 2010 when he retired. Sadly, Dr. Jack Seitz passed away in May 2022, but his sons and son-in-law continue to run Seitz Eye Care, providing the same high-quality eye care that the practice has been known for since 1960.

Meet Our Current Doctors

*Dr. Neldon S. Seitz, OD*

Dr. Neldon S. Seitz was born and raised in Vernal, Utah. He is the youngest of his siblings. Dr. Neldon attended and graduated from Southern California College of Optometry, the same school that his father and brother attended. He specializes in general and specialty contact lens fitting, diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, and is a hospital consultant for ocular trauma and disease. He completed his residency in hospital-based optometry in Alabama.

*Dr. Gordon A. Seitz, OD*

Dr. Gordon A. Seitz was born in Vernal, Utah, and grew up with his older brother Dr. Jack Seitz and his younger brother Dr. Neldon Seitz. Dr. Gordon attended and graduated from Southern California College of Optometry and joined his father Dr. Jack Seitz at Seitz Eye Care in 1990. Dr. Gordon specializes in medical eye emergencies and specialized eye care needs for all ages, from general eye care to more attentive needs.

*Dr. Bret J. Butterfield, OD*

Dr. Bret J. Butterfield was born and raised in Riverton, Utah, and graduated from Southern College of Optometry with a specialization in Pediatric Eye Care. He moved to Vernal, Utah, to start working at Seitz Eye Care in mid-2014. Dr. Bret specializes in pediatric eye care needs and specific eye care needs for all ages, and has a particular interest in medical eye emergencies.
