At Hairy Cow Brewing Company, we are proud to be Ogle County's very first brewpub, and we are committed to creating the best craft beer possible. Our brewery is more than just a place to enjoy a cold beer, it's a community gathering spot where friends and family can come together to enjoy amazing river views, cozy fireplaces, and delicious food. We are dedicated to using locally produced ingredients whenever possible and in season, and we take pride in donating our spent brewer's grain to local farms for use as cow feed and to a local artisan bakery.

The Story Behind Hairy Cow Brewing Company

Our brewery was inspired by the Scottish Highland cattle raised by owner Todd McLester on his property outside of Byron, Illinois. These adorable creatures are the namesake of our brewery, and several of our beer names were also inspired by them. For example, Denmar is the herd bull, and a perfect choice for the name of our seasonal Oktoberfest brew. The bangs which cover the Highland's eyes, and give the cattle their iconic look, are called a dossan, and this inspired the name of our Dossan Amber beer. We also offer a Highland Hairy IPA, an American Hairy IPA, and a double chocolate milk stout named Dos Dookies.

Our Team

Our team is made up of passionate individuals who love brewing and sharing beer with friends and family. Our Head Brewer and partner, Jon Lambert, started home brewing in 2010 and turned pro in 2016. Jim Orlando, our resident foodie and partner, retired from a 38-year career at Woodward Governor where he acted as photographer and safety director. Jim is now our colorful host, always dressed to impress and ready to entertain customers.
