At Optometry Giving Sight, we are dedicated to transforming lives through vision care. Our mission is to support sustainable and scalable optometry-led programs that educate eye care providers locally and enable the establishment and delivery of vision care and eye health to all.

Mission & History

Our vision for Giving Sight is a world in which optometry enables universal access to vision care and eye health. We were established in 2003 as a joint initiative of the World Council of Optometry, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, and the Brien Holden Vision Institute to address the debilitating problem of vision impairment worldwide.

Our Work

We focus on the following initiatives:

• Train: Providing training for local eye care professionals.
• Establish: Establishing optometry schools, vision centers, and optical labs.
• Deliver: Delivering eye exams and low or no-cost glasses.

Our Impact

We believe that sight can make the difference between a life of poverty and a life of opportunity. 1.1 billion people around the world suffer needlessly from vision impairment, and 80% of what a child learns is vision-based.
