Our Services: Spray Foam Insulation
SPF (Spray Polyurethane Foam) is the gold standard in insulation, excelling in every measurable category. When combined with our professional installation crew, you can expect not only outstanding results but also long-term savings due to its superior insulating capabilities. Some of the numerous benefits of SPF include:
- Excellent return on investment
- Government green improvement tax credits
- Creates an airtight seal
- Hypoallergenic
- Acts as a moisture barrier
- Noise reduction
- Mold deterrent
- Long lifespan
- Rodent deterrent
- Eco-friendly
- Increases structural integrity
We offer two types of spray foam insulation: open-cell and closed-cell. Both are green products and safe for you and your family.
Open-Cell Spray Foam
Developed in the early 1990s, open-cell spray foam is sold at a 0.5 lbs. density and is often referred to as the "cotton candy" insulation. Open-cell spray foam provides airtightness at 3.5 inches and has an R-value of 3.2 to 4.2 per inch, depending on the manufacturer. This is an excellent interior product for both new home construction and retrofit applications, offering exceptional sound control properties. The ROI for this product is fantastic, and it is the most commonly used product in new custom homes.
Closed-Cell Spray Foam
Invented around 1940, closed-cell spray foam is typically sold at densities between 1.7 and 2 lbs. It is predominantly used for exterior applications, such as under conventional homes or inside metal buildings. Closed-cell spray foam is also commonly used inside custom homes due to its superior R-value of 6.5 to 7.4 per inch, making it the best insulation product available for most applications. This dense, watertight product bonds the structure together like glue, with the only drawback being its higher cost compared to other insulation types.
Cellulose Insulation
Cellulose is an older insulation product, often made from newspaper and treated with chemicals for rodent control and fire retardation. It is available in dry or loose-fill, sprayed or stabilized forms. Gorilla Building does not install wet cellulose due to potential mold concerns. Dry cellulose is an affordable alternative to open-cell spray foam, but it has a lower R-value compared to SPF.
Fiberglass Insulation
We recommend avoiding fiberglass batt and roll insulation for new homes. Fiberglass insulation can cause skin, eye, and respiratory issues, and it is not an ideal primary insulation option for your home. At Gorilla Building, we focus on providing safer, more efficient insulation solutions.
