Our Story

In the late 1970s, Joe, driven by a passion for downtown Vancouver, began investing in various properties, including one that would later become the home of Main Street Trader. After retiring from Bonneville Power Administration in 1993, Joe's penchant for antiques and the joy of restoring wooden furniture led him to embark on this new endeavor. Coinciding with the revitalization of this area, now known as Uptown Village, Joe became one of the founding presidents of the newly established Uptown Village Association.

Karen, Joe's daughter who had graduated from Washington State University with a double major in Soil and Environmental Science, was initially looking for a stepping stone while searching for her true calling. With Joe's encouragement and a growing admiration for the family business, Karen became a partner and eventually took the reins as manager of Main Street Trader.

As the business flourished and public interest shifted from antiques to new, handcrafted wooden furniture, Main Street Trader evolved to meet these changing needs. Today, the store proudly showcases a diverse selection of all-wood furniture from multiple manufacturers, offering a wide array of styles, woods, and finishes to suit every taste and budget.
