Experience the Best of Downtown Living

Located on the corner of Church Avenue and 5th Street, The Locker Room Lofts offers a unique blend of history and modern living. Our community is built within the former YMCA Central Branch Building, which was constructed in the 1950s. This beautiful building showcases many of its original architectural features, including the stunning atrium and the iconic locker room facilities.

Our History

The 4-story former YMCA Central Branch Building was built in 1956-1958 as an expanded facility for the YMCA as it began to focus more on becoming a community recreation center. Designed by the Roanoke firm of Frantz & Addkison in the International Style, the building is one of the better examples of the style in Roanoke, with its simple form and long horizontal rows of windows accentuated by the cantilevered concrete sunshades.
