At Burbage Theatre Company, we are passionate about bringing socially relevant and compelling stories to life on stage. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit theatre organization, we are dedicated to providing affordable access to the performing arts and fostering a climate of purposeful inclusion of all people.

Our Mission

Our mission is to excite and engage a new generation of theatre-goers with classic and contemporary stories told by an inventive and expert ensemble of actors. We believe that acting comes first, and our productions are built around the collaboration of our talented ensemble of storytellers. We strive to perpetuate a discourse about the actor's role as storyteller in today's world and to cultivate a diverse artistic community in Rhode Island.

Our History

Burbage Theatre Company was founded by four actors who wanted to take the craft of acting out of the classroom and into their own hands. Our first production, "It's Not that Way It's Over Here", was an evening of two absurdist one-act plays, and since then, we have produced fourteen productions in various spaces across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. In 2015, we entered into residency at AURORA Providence, and now we call the historic mill building at 59 Blackstone Avenue in Pawtucket, RI home.

Our team is composed entirely of homegrown RI talent, including staff, leadership, board of directors, and resident artists. We are proud to be a part of the Rhode Island theatre community and to be contributing to the growth and cultivation of the arts in our state.
