Our History

In the 1920s, Cooper Furniture Company was a chain furniture store owned by the Cooper family. DeWitt Belk worked for the original Cooper family and later bought the entire chain from them. This began a family tradition that continues to this day. In 1955, DeWitt Belk gave control of the business to his nephew, Kenneth DeWitt Belk, and his wife, Bonita Belk. Today, the business is owned by the Belk daughters, Kathy O'Brien and Deena Totherow, who are committed to continuing the family tradition.
