The Architectural Foundation of San Francisco (AFSF) fuels the imaginations and talents of young people, inspiring them to become the architects, designers, and urban planners of tomorrow. Since 1969, we have nurtured a vibrant and inclusive community where aspiring creatives can explore, experiment, and contribute to the built environment of our region.

Empowering Youth Through Design

We offer transformative programs and initiatives that:

1. Inspire & Educate

• Mentor high school students through the annual Architectural Design Competition, encouraging them to create impactful designs for real-world challenges.
• Provide workshops and lectures featuring leading architects, engineers, and urban planners.
• Host educational field trips to showcase diverse architectural marvels.

2. Cultivate & Develop

• Run the Build SF Summer Design Institute, a three-week intensive summer program where students collaborate on design projects and build valuable skillsets.
• Offer AFSF Portfolio Workshops to guide young creatives in developing their design portfolios.
• Provide the Kirby Ward Fitzpatrick Prize to talented young architects and designers.

3. Celebrate & Connect

• Host the annual Beaux Arts Ball, a dazzling celebration of architectural achievements and community involvement.
• Connect youth with mentors in the design and architecture industries through our mentorship program.
• Organize volunteer opportunities to engage in real-world design applications.
