Our History

Gebhart Funeral Home has a rich history that dates back to 1919, when the Gebhart family purchased the business from Mr. Charles H. Clewell. Our original location at 531 Delaware Street in New Castle was built as a funeral home in 1885, making it the oldest existing funeral establishment in New Castle County, Delaware. Over the years, we've expanded to include our Claymont Chapel, which was originally built in 1915 as a vacation home and converted into a full-service funeral home in the 1950s.
