The Baird Funeral Home has been a cornerstone of funeral services in Dundee, NY since 1984, and has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. As a family-owned and operated business, we have been serving families of all faiths and denominations with dignity and respect for four generations. Our commitment to providing traditional and customized funeral services at a moderate cost has remained unwavering, and we strive to provide compassionate and personalized care to every family we serve.

Family History

Our family's legacy in the funeral business began with Walter E. Baird, who started his business in the Scottsburg and Conesus areas in the late 1800s. He then moved his business to Wayland in the early 1900s, where it continued to operate until his death in 1930. Walter's son, W. Eugene Baird, continued the family tradition and opened a business in the N. Cohocton/Atlanta area. After W. Eugene Baird's untimely death in 1937, his wife, Cora (Reigelsperger) Baird, operated the business with their eldest son, Theodore E. Baird, who also purchased a business in Dansville in 1949. They ran both businesses together until Cora's death in 1955.

In 1959, Walter E. (Gene) Baird III, the youngest of the four children, took over the family business. In the early 1980s, Gene Baird's two sons and his nephew, Baird R. Booth, all great grandsons of Walter E. Baird, graduated from Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. In 1984, the Baird family purchased the Pennington Funeral Home in Dundee, which Walter E. (Chip) Baird IV managed until the business was sold to Baird and his father in 1992. Gene and his two sons, Walter E. (Chip) Baird IV and Richard C. Baird, purchased the Willis C. Moore Funeral Home in Naples. Walter E. (Gene) Baird III retired in 1997. In 2001, Walter E. (Chip) Baird IV and Richard C. Baird purchased the Chamberlin Funeral Home in Dansville. Today, all three cousins continue in the family tradition and work closely together to uphold the respected reputation earned by their ancestors over the years.
