Where art meets architecture, we create homes that tell your story
Studio 528 Art and Architecture is a full-service residential design firm based in the Bay Area and on the Central Coast of California. Founded and led by Principal Architect, Mike Tinsley, the firm is dedicated to combining art and architecture to bring each client's unique story of home to life. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington and over 28 years of experience in the field, Mike has honed his skills in residential design and has become an accomplished artist in watercolor, graphite, and digital art.
Mike and his wife, Marlane, live in Capitola, California, and are the proud parents of two college athletes, Ell and Scott. When they're not cheering on their kids, they can be found enjoying the beautiful Monterey Bay area on trails, bikes, paddle boards, camping, or from the comfort of their beach chairs.
Our Mission
At Studio 528 Art and Architecture, our mission is to bring art and architecture talent to bear in realizing each client's imagined dream of "home." We believe that every home should be a reflection of the people who live there, and we work closely with our clients to ensure that their vision is at the forefront of every design decision. We are not interested in having a signature style, but rather in using our skills and experience to create a unique home that tells each client's story.
Our Partners and Collaborators
We believe that collaboration is key to achieving our mission. That's why we work with a talented team of partners and collaborators, including directors of photography, geotechnical engineers, contractors, website designers, landscape architects, and interior designers. Together, we bring a diverse set of skills and expertise to every project, ensuring that every detail is carefully considered and executed with the utmost precision and care.

Featured Projects
At Studio 528 Art and Architecture, we have had the privilege of working on a wide range of projects, from modern homes in the heart of Silicon Valley to French-style estates tucked into the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains. Each project is unique, but they all share a common goal: to create a home that reflects the people who live there.
California Modern
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, this modern home was designed for a growing family who needed functional spaces. With 3,300 square feet to work with, we created a layout that allowed for maximum functionality and flexibility. The downstairs spaces were designed to multitask, while the upstairs was reserved for private living spaces. The back of the house was designed to provide easy access to the backyard, with a giant pocket door that opens the back wall of the living room for immediate access to the deck and outdoor kitchen.

French Country
Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, this French-style estate was transformed from a ranch-style home through a remodel and addition. The design focused on symmetry and careful application of the details of the French style. The front and back yards were landscaped to create lush and beautiful gardens that complete the picture of this gorgeous home.
