At Argus Architecture & Preservation, P.C., we believe that architecture is a service that extends beyond the confines of a single project. Our philosophy is centered on preserving and improving the built environment, which ultimately contributes to enhancing the quality of life for those who interact with these structures. Since 1979, we have been committed to delivering attentive, personalized service to our clients and producing creative design work that adheres to the highest standards of quality.

Services

Our comprehensive architectural services cater to a wide range of clients, including those in the civic, institutional, educational, commercial, and residential sectors. We are equally experienced in new construction and historic preservation projects, with a portfolio that includes everything from master planning and urban design to small building design and intricate restorations. The construction cost of our projects ranges from a few thousand dollars to over $5 million.

Our team of experienced architects is dedicated to providing principal involvement in all projects, ensuring regular continuing education, and implementing stringent quality control measures. We believe in the power of collaboration, which is why we approach every project as a team, assuring our clients of superior results and continuity throughout the process.

Preservation Projects

At Argus Architecture & Preservation, P.C., we take great pride in our preservation projects. We are committed to preserving historic buildings, having gained the respect of the preservation community and the trust of the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. Some of our notable preservation projects include:

  • The Ausable Club, Keene Valley, NY: The National Register 1890 Clubhouse is one of only two 19th century resort hotels still extant in the Adirondacks. We conducted a roofing rehabilitation project that included the complete replacement of recent (but failed) asphalt roofing systems on the Clubhouse and the Casino buildings, and associated work. Our design included a life cycle cost analysis for three roofing systems, including returning to the original metal roof (with Kynar or zinc-coated copper).
  • Rouses Point Museum & Visitor Center, Rouses Point, NY: We are currently overseeing the complete rehabilitation and renovation of the abandoned 1889 Richardsonian Romanesque former D&H Railroad Station at the Amtrak border-crossing stop at Rouses Point. The station will serve as a welcome center, a museum displaying local history, offices for the Town Historian and the Historical Society and a repository for the Historical Society's and the Historian's collections, including climate-controlled archival space.
  • H.W. Sage House, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY: The large and complex 1880 mansion of a former Cornell president (now Cornell University Press offices) exhibits a host of deterioration problems due to original design conditions, water infiltration, soils, and other factors. We have been working diligently to address these issues and preserve this historic building.

Higher Education & Libraries

Our experience in higher education and library projects is unparalleled. Some of our notable projects include:

  • Morrill Hall Sibley Hall Dome Cornell University - Roof Replacement, Ithaca, NY: We were tasked with assessing and developing conceptual design options to replace and/or repair failed or deteriorated roofing systems at Morrill Hall (1868), White Hall (1869), and Sibley Dome (1902) - three of the original arts quad buildings, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Summary

At Argus Architecture & Preservation, P.C., we are dedicated practitioners who take pride in our broad-based practice, spanning various scales and types of projects. We are committed to delivering superior results, implementing rigorous quality control measures, and providing attentive, personalized service to our clients.
