Protect Your Skin
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, with the majority of cases linked to excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun and tanning beds. Practicing sun safety measures can significantly reduce your risk.
- Examine your skin regularly: Look out for any changes in moles, freckles, or other skin lesions. Pay attention to asymmetry, irregular borders, color variations, diameter (larger than a pencil eraser), and evolving characteristics (changes in size, shape, or color).
- Apply sunscreen daily: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 45 or higher, even on cloudy days. Reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
- Seek shade: Limit your time in direct sunlight, particularly during peak hours (10 am to 4 pm).
- Wear protective clothing: Cover up with long-sleeved shirts, pants, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses.
