Established by Dr. Jacob Smestad in 2011, our practice has been a trustworthy name for delivering exceptional quality of care and service using advanced technologies in a comfortable and relaxed setting. Dr. Jacob Smestad

Dr. Jacob Smestad received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2010. Soon after, Dr. Smestad joined his father-in-law, Dr. David Gunelson, at the current practice location in Hibbing, and started becoming active in the Iron Range dental community. When Dr. Gunelson retired in 2011, Dr. Smestad established North Star Dental Care, continuing Dr. Gunelson's legacy of comfortable and personalized dentistry. Dr. Smestad is originally from a small town in southern Minnesota but was drawn to Hibbing for its abundance of outdoor activities and nearby family. Outside of the practice, Dr. Smestad enjoys biking, running, skiing, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his wife, Sara, and their three children, William, Joseph, and Maria.

Dr. Brekke Hudelson

Dr. Brekke Hudelson received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 2017, along with her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. Dr. Hudelson completed a general dentistry residency program at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center before joining North Star Dental Care in July 2018. Dr. Hudelson is delighted to have returned to her hometown of Hibbing to practice dentistry with the wonderful team at North Star Dental Care. She is the daughter of Hibbing educators and a proud graduate of Hibbing High School. When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Hudelson loves spending time with her family, fishing, hunting, kayaking, capturing photos, and enjoying the natural beauty of the northland.

Keri

Born and raised near Virginia, Keri has over 20 years of experience working in the dental field. As the first smiling face to greet patients at North Star Dental Care, she is the office manager and handles the day-to-day operations with her managerial, reception, and clerical talents. Keri excels at making patients feel comfortable and at ease during their appointments, and her dedication to interacting with each individual sets the tone for the exceptional patient care provided at North Star Dental Care.
