Welcome to the Alaska Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association, a statutory entity created in 1990 to protect resident policyholders in the event of an insurance company insolvency. Our primary goal is to provide protection to Alaska residents who are holders of life and health insurance policies and individual annuities with an insolvent insurer.
Our Services
We are composed of all insurers licensed to sell life insurance, health insurance, and individual annuities in the state of Alaska. In the event that a member insurer is found to be insolvent and is ordered to be liquidated by a court, we take on the responsibility of providing protection to Alaska residents who are holders of life and health insurance policies and individual annuities with the insolvent insurer. This protection is based on Alaska law and the language of the insolvent company's policies at the time of insolvency.
Our services include:
- Providing protection to Alaska residents who are holders of life and health insurance policies and individual annuities with an insolvent insurer
- Servicing the insurance company's policies and providing coverage to Alaska's resident policyholders
- Transferring policies to another insurance company, if necessary
- Continuing coverage as long as premiums are paid or cash value exists
- Determining policy coverage based on Alaska law and policy language at the time of insolvency
