History of the IFPDA Print Fair
The IFPDA Print Fair embarked on its journey in November 1991, hosted at the historic Seventh Regiment Armory in Manhattan. For 25 years, the fair flourished amidst the elegant surroundings of the Armory, establishing itself as a distinguished event in the New York art calendar.
In 2016, the fair relocated to the vibrant Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan, taking on a new name, "IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair, " reflecting its expanded scope and reach. This move allowed for greater accessibility and enabled the fair to accommodate a wider range of exhibitors and attendees.
The global outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 presented unprecedented challenges, prompting the IFPDA to adapt and innovate. In response, they launched a successful virtual IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair, offering online access to a diverse collection of works from over 125 international members of the organization. This virtual event demonstrated the power of technology to bridge geographical boundaries and ensure the continuity of the art fair experience.
A Commitment to Printmaking
Driven by its unwavering commitment to the art of printmaking, the IFPDA continued to evolve its programming and reach. In 2020, "Print Month" was introduced, expanding the scope of the IFPDA's activities beyond the traditional confines of the Print Fair. This month-long celebration of printmaking featured an array of virtual programs, including presentations by esteemed artists, curators, and scholars from around the world. "Print Month, " a testament to the IFPDA's adaptability and vision, fostered global engagement and amplified the appreciation of printmaking as an art form.
