These values have been the foundation of VLMK Engineering + Design since its inception in 1971 in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon. The firm was founded by Fred van Domelen and Dirk looijenga under the name Van Domelen / Looijenga Consulting Engineers. Starting with a modest two-room office space, the firm later moved to an old house in a hippy neighborhood near the Ross Island Market, where the staff were the most serious-minded residents of the community.

Our History

In the early years, the firm's primary emphasis was providing quality consulting services for the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing (MEP) industries. However, the firm quickly expanded its services to include structural engineering, and later civil engineering. As the firm's capabilities and expertise grew, so did its reputation for delivering exceptional results.

In 1986, the firm underwent a major rebranding and became known as VLMK Engineering + Design, reflecting its expanded focus on both engineering and design.
