Who We Are: Our History

Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services is a family-owned and operated business that has been serving the greater north hills community of Pittsburgh since 1855. Founded by Henry J. Schellhaas, the funeral home has been committed to providing first-class service and dedication to families who have lost a loved one for six generations.

Henry J. Schellhaas II joined his father at a young age and continued the business alone after his father's passing until his death in 1911. Anna Lang, Henry J. Schellhaas II's wife, ran the business until their son, Henry J. Schellhaas III, was old enough to take charge. In 1936, Henry J. (III) and his wife, Mary McIntire Rees, moved to West View Borough and opened the Center Avenue funeral home in 1948. Their three boys, Henry "Jack" IV, Charles, and Robert, all entered the business, forming the fourth generation of funeral directors.

The late Jack Schellhaas moved to Richland Township, Gibsonia, PA, in 1951 and expanded the family business in 1971, opening Schellhaas Funeral Home, Ltd. in Bakerstown, PA, which is now in its 50th year of service. Our newest location has been opened for 10 years in Franklin Park Borough, Schellhaas & Sons, Inc., 1600 Stone Mansion Drive., Sewickley, PA 15143.

Currently active in the Schellhaas tradition are 5th generation Funeral Directors, Chuck Schellhaas with 47 years of service and Rob Schellhaas with 35 years of service. The 6th generation is made up of Matt Schellhaas with 20 years of service, Ryan Schellhaas with 10 years of service, and Drew Schellhaas with 9 years of service. Additional knowledgeable funeral directors include Bill Dice with 40 years of service and Gery Pielin with 38 years of service.

Who We Are: Our Locations

Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services has three locations to serve the greater north hills community of Pittsburgh. Our main location is at 388 Center Avenue in West View, PA. This location has been serving families for over 75 years and is conveniently located near major highways.

Our second location is at 5864 Heckert Road in Bakerstown, PA, and has been serving families for 50 years. This location is located in the heart of Bakerstown and is easily accessible from surrounding areas.

Our newest location is at 1600 Stone Mansion Drive in Franklin Park Borough, PA, and has been serving families for 10 years. This location is located in a beautiful and serene setting and offers a spacious and comfortable atmosphere for families.
