Staas Brewing Company is a small batch, family-owned and operated brewpub that first opened its doors in Delaware in 2013. We specialize in classic Belgian and English beer styles, and our pub features 12 taps and two English beer engines with an ever-changing selection of delicious, authentic beers.
My husband Donald and I first visited Delaware together in April 2012, and we immediately fell in love with the small town feel, authenticity, and nostalgia of this unique town. Within six months of our first visit, we had sold our home in Columbus and moved to Delaware to open our brewpub. Now, ten years later, we have started our family here and are so grateful to be a part of this wonderful community.
We are proud to be Delaware's first brewery since Prohibition, and we strive to showcase the rich, interesting history of this town through our Delaware-inspired beers. Our tagline is "classic styles, true to style, " and we are committed to brewing classic beer styles to the highest quality. Any special adjuncts used in our beer, such as herbs, spices, fruits, or spruce tips, are used to enhance or accent the natural yeast, hop, and/or malt profile of the beer, not to overpower it.
As a small batch brewpub, we have the ability to experiment with new recipes and rotate seasonal beers and new recipes very frequently. We offer over 20 seasonal beers in addition to our ten mainstay/signature beers on a yearly basis. We hope that you will come in with the anticipation of "What do they have on tap tonight?" and enjoy a pint with your friends.
Cask Conditioned Beer
In February 2015, we proudly added two English beer engines to our existing 12 traditional co2 taps. Adding cask beer to our repertoire was a vital step toward our goal of offering classic European beer in its highest quality and in its most authentic way. We will always continue to offer all of your Staas Brewing favorites on our twelve co2 taps as well.
Cask conditioned beer, also known as a "Real Ale, " is unfiltered beer that is matured by secondary fermentation in the cask from which it is served, without additional nitrogen or carbon dioxide pressure. A small amount of new sugars are reintroduced when the beer is placed into the cask, and the yeasts in the unfiltered beer convert these sugars into alcohol, creating carbonation in the air tight cask. Cask beer is traditionally served at cellar temperature (50 to 55F).
A cask is a large barrellike vessel made of wood, metal, or plastic, and we have opted to use stainless steel 10.8 gallon casks to ensure proper sanitation and durability. 10.8 gallon stainless vessels tend to be the choice type of cask used today amongst brewers in the US.
We are proud to offer cask conditioned beer at Staas Brewing Company, and we believe that it adds an extra layer of authenticity and quality to our classic European beer styles. We hope that you will come in and try a pint of our cask conditioned beer, and taste the difference for yourself.
