Julie Brand Pottery is a business that specializes in creating unique and intricate pottery artwork. Julie Brand, the artist behind the pottery, aims for a symbiotic relationship between her art and her being. She uses pottery as her canvas, painting it with underglazes to depict nature's details, such as flowers, leaves, and urban scenes, under a microscope. Julie works primarily with mid-fire stoneware, using both a potter's wheel and hand building techniques. She alters and carves the leather-hard clay, then paints imagery on unfired, greenware with underglazes. After a bisque firing, she adds a medley of commercial and hand-mixed glazes to the pieces before their second and, sometimes third, firing. Julie's inspiration for her subject matter emerges from her relationships, past experiences, and her rural surroundings in Missouri. The view from her potter's wheel informs her of nature's intricacies and provides endless inspiration.

Education and Experience

Julie Brand has a rich background in art and ceramics. She gained a Bachelor of Arts in Art Therapy from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and pursued additional studies at Tufts University, Massachusetts, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She later attended Parson's School of Art and Design in New York and completed a ceramic concentration at Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina.
