Our Story

At Richeson & Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Homes, we have been dedicated to serving the Troy and St. Jacob communities for over a century. Our story begins with James D. (Jim) Laughlin, who worked in partnership with Robert L. Ciuferi at Edwards Funeral Home in Troy, Illinois, in 1967. Together, they provided ambulance and funeral services to the community. In 1968, Jim purchased the funeral home and ambulance service in its entirety from Mr. Ciuferi and operated under the name of Edwards Funeral Home until 1973, when, at the requests of many area residents, the name was changed to Laughlin Funeral Home.

Jim and his wife, Rosemary, raised three daughters while living in the upstairs of the funeral home for the next 20 years. Sadly, Rosemary passed away due to cancer in December 1989. Jim subsequently married Deborah Kowalski Nemsky of Belleville, Illinois, in December 1990, and they relocated to a private residence. The upstairs of the funeral home was renovated into offices and living quarters for the paramedics.

Over the years, we have made various remodeling upgrades, culminating with an entire renovation in the fall of 2001. During this renovation, a second chapel was added, as well as a coffee lounge and arrangement rooms. This has allowed us to better serve our families with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Our Locations

We have two convenient locations to serve you. Our Troy location, Richeson Funeral Home, is located at 205 Edwardsville Road, Troy, IL 62294. Our St. Jacob location, Aebischer Funeral Home, is located at 211 North Douglas, St. Jacob, IL 62281. Both of our locations are handicapped accessible and offer a warm and welcoming environment for families to gather and celebrate the lives of their loved ones.
