Our History: A Legacy of Service and Quality

The Optimist Printers was established in 1906 as a weekly newspaper and job shop called The Dalles Optimist, with a subscription rate of $1.50 per year. Founded by Addison Bennett, the paper was born out of a desire to re-enter the newspaper field and serve the community of The Dalles. Over the years, the business has changed ownership several times, but its commitment to service, quality, and customers has remained constant. Current owner Matt Herriges, who has been with the company since 1981, continues this legacy of dedication and community service.

Our Team: Expertise and Passion

At Optimist Printers, our team is our greatest asset. Our knowledgeable and experienced staff includes:

• Matt and Angie Herriges, owners since 2012, who oversee the everyday operation of the shop and help with outside sales
• Mike Correa, the backbone of our pressroom, with over 30 years of printing experience, handling production, printing, trimming, cutting, numbering, and die cutting
• Courtney Kivett, our lead designer, who graduated from Sherman County High School and received her BA for Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Portland in 2016
• Matthew Allen, a graphic designer who graduated from Goldendale High School and received his BFA in Graphic Design from Central Washington University in 2016
