Responsive Designs, Architects is a firm that specializes in creating stylish and energy-efficient designs with a strong emphasis on practical spatial solutions. Our passion for the environment is evident in our appreciation for contextual design strategies that not only enhance the natural environment of the building externally but also internally. We believe that a well-designed building should integrate seamlessly into the lives of its users and the surrounding landscape while leaving a minimal, sustainable, and sensitive footprint on the earth.

Our firm is owned by Connie Gordon, a licensed Architect with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Connie has been a licensed Architect since 1990 and has over 30 years of extensive experience in residential and light commercial projects, remodels, and historic structures. She is extremely knowledgeable about the availability and use of sustainable, non-toxic, and environmentally sensitive building materials and currently serves on the City of Durango Design Review Board.

We strongly emphasize the ability to communicate thoroughly and precisely with all parties involved in the design team, especially the Client. Good communication is the key to good design, and subsequently, to a successful project. We strive to create a design process that is productive, efficient, non-stressful, and enjoyable.

• Remodels: Responsive Designs recognizes that the most sustainable home is one that is already built. We have designed many remodels and additions to existing residences, adding thoughtful and complimentary space to existing structures.
• Commercial Projects: We have been involved in several commercial, educational, and institutional projects, including daycare centers, restaurants, and spas.
• Solar Homes: We have been designing passive and active solar homes for the past 35 years. We strive to not only incorporate solar components into a home's design but also design for net-zero energy ready.
• Other Homes: Responsive Designs prides itself on designing thoughtful and efficient spaces that reflect the client's programmatic needs, budget, site conditions, and energy efficiency.

Our process at Responsive Designs, Architects starts with a complimentary initial meeting to discuss the scope of the project, the project budget, and the needs and wants of the Client. From the information gathered at this meeting, a proposal will be generated for the Client's review. This proposal outlines the architectural services we will provide, including design, documentation, and construction administration. We work closely with our clients throughout the design process to ensure that their needs are met, and their visions are brought to life.
