At Sossamon Funeral Home, we understand that losing a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences a family can face. Our family-owned and family-operated funeral home has been serving Vance County and the surrounding area for many years, offering traditional funeral services, graveside services, memorial services, and cremation services.

Our Story

Our story began with our founder, Rev. Frank Sossamon, who served as a pastor in the area for over 37 years. His commitment to serving the community and his neighbor led him to establish Sossamon Funeral Home, where we prioritize providing exceptional care to families in their time of need. Our team consists of experienced professionals, including John F. Sossamon II, our owner and licensed funeral director, and Rev. Frank Sossamon, our grief counselor.

Our Staff

Our staff members are dedicated professionals who understand that every family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. We take pride in being aware of these requests and traditions, which are of utmost importance to our licensed funeral directors. Meet some of our staff below:

John F. Sossamon II, our owner and licensed funeral director, is a proud son of Rev. Frank and Vickie Sossamon of Henderson, NC. John attended East Carolina University, Vance Granville Community College, and is a graduate of Fayetteville Technical Community College's Funeral Service program. John takes pride in the close relationships he establishes with the families he serves.

Rev. Frank Sossamon, our grief counselor, has been a resident of Vance County for the last 37 years. He served as a pastor in the area and is now retired. Rev. Sossamon is a graduate of Western Piedmont Community College, East Coast Bible College, Southwestern University of Christian Ministries, and Houston Graduate School of Theology.

Bill Lloyd, our general manager, is a full-time employee of Sossamon Funeral Home. He has been employed at the former Flowers Funeral Home since May 1994 and looks forward to continuing to serve the people of Vance and surrounding counties.

Jonathan Abbott, our funeral director, is a full-time employee of Sossamon Funeral Home. He was born and raised in Oxford, NC, where he still resides. Jonathan is well known in the community and is a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
