Better Attention. Better Care. Generation After Generation

Dr. Xiaoli Shang, L.Ac, Ph. D., is a Nationally Board Certified acupuncturist through the NCCAOM and a licensed practitioner in New York State. Her journey into the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine began in her childhood, immersed in the wisdom shared by her parents. Dr. Shang's father, deeply intrigued by traditional healing practices, dedicated himself to self-education in herbal medicine, acupressure, and acupuncture. Years of dedicated practice refined his knowledge, which he ultimately passed down to his daughter, paving the way for her acceptance into Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This esteemed institution, located in a region of China renowned for its highly experienced and academically rigorous acupuncture practitioners, provided Dr. Shang with a strong foundation in the ancient art and science of acupuncture.

Dr. Shang's mother further enriched her family's legacy by also pursuing acupuncture, specializing in Pediatric Hand Acupressure. The knowledge and techniques inherited from both her parents have shaped Dr. Shang's practice, instilling in her a deep reverence for the traditional roots of her profession. Beyond her family's influence, Dr. Shang continually expands her understanding through certifications from expert practitioners, developing unique insights into the multifaceted mechanisms of acupuncture. Driven by a profound commitment to Traditional Chinese Medicine, cultivated since 1997, Dr. Shang specializes in Pain Management, Women's Health Issues, Allergies, and Addictions, serving patients in Pearl River, Rockland County, New York.

Treatment Services

At Shang Acupuncture Center, our approach to healthcare is rooted in the understanding that true well-being encompasses the harmony of mind, body, and spirit. We offer a range of treatments tailored to your specific needs, utilizing the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine to restore balance and promote healing.

Acupuncture Therapy: This fundamental modality involves the precise placement of fine, sterile, stainless steel needles at specific pressure points throughout the body. Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, promoting a cascade of physiological responses that can alleviate pain, reduce stress, and restore overall balance.

Cupping Therapy: This ancient technique employs glass suction cups strategically placed on the skin's surface. Cupping gently lifts and stretches the tissues, releasing muscular tension, improving circulation, and promoting detoxification by drawing out stagnant fluids and toxins.

Every treatment session begins with a thorough consultation followed by a comprehensive examination. This careful assessment allows Dr. Shang to understand your unique health concerns and tailor a personalized treatment plan designed to address your specific needs. Treatment sessions typically last between 35-45 minutes, and we recommend allowing approximately an hour for your appointment to ensure a relaxed and comfortable experience. All treatments are conducted in private rooms, equipped with supportive treatment tables and TDP ceramic heat lamps for enhanced comfort and therapeutic benefits.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a system of healing that has been practiced for thousands of years. It is based on the fundamental concept that health and well-being are maintained through the harmonious flow of "Qi" (pronounced "chee"), a vital energy that circulates through the body along pathways called meridians.

Acupuncturists are licensed healthcare professionals trained to diagnose and treat imbalances in Qi flow that can manifest as various health concerns. They achieve this by inserting thin, sterile needles at precise acupuncture points along these meridians.

The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, including pain management, digestive issues, insomnia, anxiety, and fertility challenges. Acupuncture's gentle yet powerful approach aims to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms, promoting overall balance and well-being.
