At Families Together Cooperative Nursery School, we believe that early childhood education is a journey of discovery and exploration. Our school is built on the foundation of a cooperative model, where families and teachers work together to create a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters growth, creativity, and critical thinking.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a high-quality educational experience that acknowledges the unique needs and strengths of each child. We aim to create a sense of community and belonging among our students, families, and staff, where everyone feels valued and supported. Our curriculum is designed to be engaging, interactive, and playful, allowing children to learn and grow in a way that is both fun and challenging.
Our Curriculum
We offer a comprehensive curriculum that is carefully crafted to meet the needs of children aged 4-6 years old. Our program is divided into four core areas: Language and Literacy, Mathematics and Problem-Solving, Science and Exploration, and Social-Emotional Learning. Our teachers use a variety of teaching methods, including Project-Based Learning, to create an environment that is both structured and spontaneous.
Why Play Matters
At FTCNS, we believe that play is an essential component of childhood education. Our play-based curriculum is designed to stimulate children's creativity, imagination, and problem-solving skills, while also promoting their social, emotional, and cognitive development. We understand that play is not just a necessary part of childhood, but also a means to develop important life skills, such as communication, empathy, and self-regulation.
Our Cooperative Model
We are a cooperative school, which means that parents and teachers work together to create a collaborative and supportive environment. Our cooperative model allows us to make decisions together, share resources, and support each other in our roles as educators and parents. This model also enables us to provide a more personalized and responsive approach to education, tailored to the unique needs and strengths of each child.
Our Staff
Our staff is composed of experienced early childhood educators who are dedicated to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for our students. Our teachers are trained in a variety of philosophies and approaches, including Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Project-Based Learning. We also have a team of adjunct teachers who provide specialized services, such as music, art, and physical education.
Our Facilities
We are located in a newly renovated building in the heart of Chicago, with access to a variety of amenities and resources. Our facility includes a playground, an art studio, a science lab, and a library, among other amenities. We also have partnerships with local childcare providers, community organizations, and cultural institutions to provide additional resources and opportunities for our students.
Our Community
We are proud to be a part of the broader Chicago community, with a diverse range of families and communities. We believe that our school is a reflection of the city's vibrant and eclectic spirit, and we strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.
Our History
Families Together Cooperative Nursery School was founded in 2006 by a group of parents who shared a vision for a cooperative approach to early childhood education. Over the years, we have grown and evolved, but our core values and mission remain the same: to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters growth, creativity, and critical thinking.
