BrightStars is a dedicated organization that is committed to helping families in Rhode Island access high-quality child care, early learning, and school-age programs. We believe that every child deserves access to the best possible care and education, and we work tirelessly to make this a reality. Our mission is to support child care providers in learning about and implementing best practices in early learning, which in turn, improves the care that children receive. We recognize program quality and provide parents with the information they need to make informed choices about their children's care and education.

Tiered Quality Rating & Improvement System

BrightStars is Rhode Island's Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (TQRIS). TQRIS is a method used in almost all states in the U.S. to assess, improve, and communicate the level of quality in early care, education, and school-age settings. Through the star rating system, BrightStars helps early learning, education, and school-age programs that care for children learn about best practices and apply them to the care children receive. The star rating system recognizes program quality and gives parents information to make choices about their children's care and education.

BrightStars offers a wide range of program resources to help early learning, education, and school-age programs enhance their quality. Our resources are designed to support providers in implementing best practices, improving their star rating, and providing high-quality care and education to children.

Our resources include application materials, quality improvement resources, frequently asked questions, and information about our LearnERS program. The LearnERS program is a professional development system that supports early childhood educators in Rhode Island. Through this program, educators can access training and education opportunities, coaching and mentoring, and other resources to help them improve their practice and better support the children in their care.
