RI Life & Health Insurance Guaranty

The Rhode Island Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association is a statutory entity created in 1985 to protect Rhode Island residents who are policyholders and beneficiaries of policies issued by an insolvent insurance company. Our mission is to provide protection to Rhode Island residents who have life and health insurance policies and individual annuities with insolvent insurance companies. We are committed to ensuring that policyholders receive the coverage they need and deserve, even in the event of an insurance company's insolvency.

Our Services

As a guaranty association, we provide protection to Rhode Island residents who are policyholders and beneficiaries of policies issued by an insolvent insurance company. This protection is based on Rhode Island law and the language of the insolvent company's policies at the time of insolvency. When a member insurer is found to be insolvent and is ordered liquidated, we take over the responsibility of servicing the insurance company's policies and providing coverage to Rhode Island's resident policyholders. We work closely with the special deputy receiver to process the assets and liabilities through liquidation, ensuring that policyholders receive the coverage they need and deserve.

Our History

The Rhode Island Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association was created by the Rhode Island General Assembly in 1985. The association is composed of all legal reserve insurers licensed to sell life insurance, accident and health insurance, and individual annuities in the state of Rhode Island. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to protecting Rhode Island residents who are policyholders and beneficiaries of policies issued by an insolvent insurance company.
