About Melissa Hickman

Melissa Hickman, owner and creative director of Shadeflower Studios, has been working in the design industry for over 15 years. She has a degree in Mass Communications from Winona State University and has worked in television, radio, Internet radio, Internet marketing, and publishing. She has a passion for graphic design and a keen sense of her clients' needs. She has designed for a variety of industries, including bridal, photography, stationery, healthcare, music and dance, sports, roofing and renovations, bars and restaurants, legal, non-profit, textiles, education, indie-publishing, and more. Melissa is especially familiar with how non-profits work and has served as vice president on the board of directors for the Moving Poets theatre dance troupe in Charlotte, NC. When she's not working, Melissa enjoys spending time with her three children, walking her dog, and indulging in her many artistic hobbies.

Applications Proficiency

At Shadeflower Studios, we are proficient in both Mac and PC-based systems. We are skilled in a variety of design and editing software, including Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, Acrobat, Illustator Draw, ProCreate, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, iWork Pages, Numbers, Keynote, HTML, and WordPress. We have experience in print publication layout and design, editorial content, advertisement design, logo and marketing design, branding, proofing, editing, copy-writing, newsletters, web collaboration, cross-platform integration, book and magazine layout, merchandising and packaging, web design, e-commerce, e-newsletters, email campaigns, social media correspondence and design, banners, form and survey building, digital photography including optimization.
