Our History

Since 1989, the R&R Motel has been a family-owned and operated establishment, welcoming guests with warm hospitality and comfortable accommodations. It all began when James and Norma Rice, driven by a passion for their community and a desire to share their beautiful property, constructed a series of ground-floor rooms adjacent to their existing home. Their vision was to create a place where travelers could relax and unwind, enjoying the tranquility of their surroundings while experiencing the charm of the Frankfort/Elberta area. They created a charming office space and a second-floor rental unit within their house, furthering their dream. James, unfortunately, passed away, but Norma continues to oversee the business, ensuring that the legacy he built endures. Now, their eldest son Michael and his wife Laura are carrying on the torch, upholding the tradition of providing guests with an exceptional and memorable experience.

About the R&R Motel

The R&R Motel has earned a reputation for providing its guests with comfortable rooms that are spotless and beautifully maintained. We pride ourselves on offering friendly and attentive service in a relaxing and picturesque setting. Our property, nestled amidst old growth shade trees and meandering babbling brooks, invites guests to step away from the everyday and embrace the serenity of nature.

Two charming footbridges gracefully span the babbling brook as it flows towards Betsie Bay. These delightful features, combined with a gazebo, outdoor fireplace, hammock, and picnic areas, create a tranquil ambiance where guests can unwind and reconnect with themselves and loved ones. Our meticulously tended flower gardens and diverse selection of indigenous plants attract a variety of wildlife, adding to the natural beauty and charm of our surroundings. A unique aspect of the R&R Motel is its convenient location. Situated directly on M-22, halfway between Frankfort and Elberta, we are an ideal stop on the prestigious Michigan Circle Tour. Additionally, our proximity to the Betsie Valley Hiking/Biking Trail provides guests the opportunity to explore the scenic beauty of the region. Whether you desire a short stroll to the pristine beaches of Frankfort or Elberta, or a lively afternoon of shopping and dining, the R&R Motel serves as a perfect gateway to endless adventures.

For those looking to indulge in the thrills of fishing, charter fishing and boat dockage are conveniently available just a stone's throw away from our property. We also offer dedicated and illuminated boat parking for the convenience of our guests, ensuring a worry-free experience. To cater to our guests' fishing adventures, we also provide fish freezing services upon request.

A complimentary propane grill is available for guests to use, allowing them to enjoy a delicious barbecue meal amidst the tranquil atmosphere. In addition, soda pop and ice machines conveniently located in the vending area provide guests with refreshing refreshments.

At the R&R Motel, we offer a range of comfortable and well-appointed rooms to suit various needs and preferences.

Room Amenities

All rooms are equipped with cable television, complimentary Wi-Fi, a coffee maker with complimentary coffee, and individually controlled heating and air conditioning. Additionally, each room features a private bathroom, hairdryer, soap, and shampoo. Fresh linens are provided daily, and housekeeping services are included. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request. A community refrigerator, freezer, and microwave are located in a convenient vending area for guest use.

Room Types

• Full Single: This room features one full-size bed and accommodates a maximum of two guests.

• Full Double: Our Full Double room offers two full-size beds, accommodating a maximum of four guests.

• Full Triple: This spacious two-room suite features three full-size beds, providing ample space for up to six guests. It includes two bathrooms, two televisions, a mini refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffee maker.

• Queen Single: This room provides one queen-size bed and accommodates up to two guests. It also features a sitting area, a mini refrigerator/freezer, a microwave, a 32-inch television, and a coffee maker.

• Queens Loft: This uniquely designed room features twin beds, a sleeping sofa, and a full bathtub. It is perfect for larger families or groups of up to five guests.

Reservations

We kindly request a valid credit card for all reservations. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. Please note that cancellations made within seven days of arrival are subject to the full charge. Departures prior to the scheduled checkout date do not receive a refund.

A two-night minimum stay is required for all weekends during peak season (June 21st to September 14th), holidays, and special events. We accept reservations on a first-come, first-served basis via telephone beginning March 1st. Please call us directly at 231-352-9238.

At this time, we do not offer online reservations or block rooms for groups.

For the comfort and well-being of all our guests, we kindly ask that you refrain from bringing pets onto the premises. Michigan law prohibits smoking in all guest rooms.

Check-in is available between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. We understand that travel plans may be subject to change, and we are happy to accommodate late check-ins with prior notice. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. Please be courteous of other guests by observing quiet hours, which begin at 10:00 p.m.
