Our Story

Drakakis Architecture LLC was founded in December 2009 by Desiree and Kosta Drakakis. Prior to establishing our architectural practice, Desiree worked at Muse Architects, Weinstein & Associates, and Dills Ainscough Duff. Kosta worked at Shalom Baranes Associates, Hartman-Cox Architects, and Zaras & Neudorfer Architects. Our diverse backgrounds in residential, commercial, and institutional projects have enriched our experience in contextual additions, renovation, and new construction, ranging from historic to modern architecture styles. This diverse background has enabled us to approach each project from a fresh perspective, depending on client objectives, site specifics, and the project's presence in the community.

• Interiors & Architectural Details: From new to whole house collaborations to kitchen and bathroom renovations, our projects focus on creating light and airy spaces, integrating from one space to the next, and bringing the outside in. Custom fabrications help make our spaces unique.

• Commercial Design: Small-scale local commercial projects have become an exciting part of our portfolio. From neighborhood pool bathhouse renovations to favorite local eats, our work brings these structures to life as memorable places of gathering while respecting their rich community histories.

Our Team

Our team is made up of passionate and dedicated professionals who are committed to delivering exceptional results. Our team includes:

• Desiree-Marie Escario Drakakis, Principal: Desiree has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia, a Master of Architecture from the University of Maryland at College Park, and studied abroad with the University of Virginia's Vicenza Italy Program.

• Kosta J. Drakakis, Principal: Kosta has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Maryland at College Park, a Master of Architecture from the University of Maryland at College Park, and studied abroad with the University of Maryland in Rome, Italy. Kosta also has a passion for artisan food products and works with product design and branding.

• Sophia J. Mantzouranis, Staff: Sophia has been with the firm since the beginning and previously worked many years with an engineering firm in Dupont Circle, Washington DC.
