Riot Act

In December 2002, a group of passionate artists gathered around a table at the Teton County Library and founded Riot Act, Inc., a theater company committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all. This manifesto serves to answer those who question the need for a vibrant theater community in Wyoming and to express our vision and hopes for this new company.

As humans, storytelling is essential for understanding ourselves and making sense of the world. Theater is a reflection of this inherent need. While we may not have access to the wide variety of theatrical options found in larger cities, the need for stories that entertain, challenge, and inspire us remains as vital. We strive to create a space where artists of all backgrounds can thrive, fostering a community for artists and nurturing the performing arts in Wyoming.

Initially, resources such as funds, space, audience, and actors may be limited. However, our objective is not to compete but to create a collaborative environment where all can flourish. We envision a community where the theater is a central part of the conversation, where people eagerly read the local paper each week to discover the array of theater options available. We aim to make theater a significant aspect of Wyoming's cultural landscape.

The mantra "If you want to work, create work" lies at the heart of Riot Act, Inc. This principle drives our commitment to providing opportunities for artists to hone their craft and engage the community. We support and encourage the creation of innovative, thought-provoking theater experiences that empower local actors, directors, and playwrights, while fostering a culture of justice, equity, and inclusion.

Our Services

Riot Act, Inc. offers a wide range of services, including:

1. *Live Theater Productions*: We present various live theater performances, including dramas, comedies, and short plays, to captivate, challenge, and inspire our audiences. Previous productions include "The Outsider" by Paul Slade Smith, "Lear" by William Shakespeare, and our Annual Series of Short Plays.

2. *Community Involvement*: We participate in local events, such as Old Bill's Fun Run, where we engage with the community and share our love for theater.

3. *Season Tickets*: We offer season tickets to enable theatergoers to save on tickets and enjoy the benefits of attending multiple productions throughout the season. Our upcoming 2023/2024 season is an exciting mix of drama, comedy, and short plays.

4. *Workshops and Classes*: We provide opportunities for artists of all ages and skill levels to hone their craft and enhance their knowledge of the theater. From acting classes and workshops to special events and auditions, we support the growth of local talent.
