Our History

The Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home has a storied past that began in 1945 when it was founded by Erastus Fogelsanger as the Fogelsanger Funeral Home at 250 Long Avenue in the village of Hamburg. Donald Demmerley started working for Erastus in 1947 and took over the funeral home in 1948 following Mr. Fogelsanger's death. In 1957, Donald moved the funeral home to its current location on Pierce Avenue and changed its name in 1963.

Donald's son, David, joined the family business in 1973 and became a licensed funeral director in 1978. David was named Licensed Manager in 1991 and succeeded his father as President in 2002 following Donald's death. The funeral home proudly celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018 and continues to be a family-owned and operated business that values tradition and community.
