Companion Animal Hospital was originally founded in 1971. Denise Weaver and Troy Pickerel have owned the practice since 1999. They are the proud parents of 4 children. The oldest, Jordan, currently attends Clemson University on a track scholarship. Christian is on the golf team at Wingate University in North Carolina and Madison, and Ashton both attend Athens Christian School. Their strong family connection shows through their hard work and dedication to make Companion a warm and welcoming home for clients and patients. Our Team

Our team consists of experienced and compassionate veterinarians, including Dr. Troy Pickerel, Dr. Denise Weaver, Dr. Melissa Navarro Torres, and Dr. Vanesa Farmer. Dr. Troy Pickerel received his Bachelor degree in Chemistry from The University of Indianapolis and his Master's degree in Animal Behavior and Reproduction from UGA. In 1995, he graduated from UGA with his degree in Veterinary medicine. Dr. Denise Weaver is a 1994 graduate of the UGA Veterinary School. Dr. Melissa Navarro Torres was born and raised in Puerto Rico and obtained her degree in veterinary medicine from Ross University in 2015. Dr. Vanesa Farmer was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia and received her Avian Biology degree from The University of Georgia and her doctorate at Auburn University. Each member of our team brings a unique set of skills and experiences to ensure the best care for your pets.
