Marin Joe's Restaurant was founded by Adolph Della Santina, who first brought his culinary skills and passion for Italian cuisine from the Tuscan kitchens of Lucca, Italy to the United States. Adolph's vision was simple yet profound: "Just put good food on the plate." In 1955, Adolph was joined by his nephew, Romano, who later became a partner in the business. Together, they worked tirelessly to build Marin Joe's into the institution it is today. When Adolph sold his portion of the business to Romano in 1982, Romano continued to uphold the high standards set by his uncle, ensuring that Marin Joe's remained a beloved fixture in the community.
Today, Marin Joe's Restaurant is solely owned by Romano and his two sons, Paul and Ralph. The family continues to follow the traditional recipes and techniques passed down through generations while remaining open to new ideas and innovations. About Romano Della Santina
Romano Della Santina, a renowned gourmet chef and connoisseur of fine wines, has been instrumental in keeping Italian-American traditions alive. His efforts have been recognized by the Government of Italy, which bestowed upon him the title of CAVALIERE, the highest honor the Republic of Italy can bestow. Closer to home, Romano has been honored by virtually every Italian organization in Marin County and San Francisco for his contributions to promoting Italian heritage.
Romano is a founding member of the Associazione Lucchesi Nel Mondo and served as its first president. He also founded the Italian Athletic Club of Marin and is a board member of the National Italian American Foundation. His leadership and dedication to the Italian-American community have earned him numerous accolades, including Marin County's Italian-American Citizen of the Year and Citizen of the Year of the Cristoforo Colombo Club. He is a past president of the Scacciapensieri Club and continues to be an active member of the Italian-American community.
