Our History
The Norton Funeral Homes have a rich history deeply rooted in the community of Wayne County, New York. Since 1909, our family-owned and operated business has provided compassionate and dignified funeral services, earning the distinction of being the longest-serving funeral homes in the region. Our journey began with Henry S. Norton and his business partner, Thomas Mitchell, who acquired the established Furniture and Undertaking business of James J. Wylie. The partnership, named Norton & Mitchell, flourished until 1925 when Mr. Mitchell retired due to health reasons, leading to Henry Norton taking full ownership.
In 1927, William Nelson joined the business as a partner, resulting in the name change to Norton and Nelson. This partnership continued until 1935 when Mr. Nelson relocated to Honolulu, selling his shares back to Henry Norton. This pivotal moment marked the establishment of the H.S. Norton Company, the name under which we proudly operate today.
Henry's son, Floyd Norton, joined the family business in 1944, solidifying the Norton legacy. By working together, they guided the funeral home through significant changes and advancements in the service industry while maintaining their unwavering commitment to serving families with the utmost care and respect.
