Yosaku is a premier Japanese restaurant and sushi bar located in the heart of downtown Portland, Maine. Our mission is to share the rich culture of Japan through its exquisite cuisine, and to provide an unforgettable dining experience for our guests.

Our Story

Yosaku was founded in 2003 by Takahiro Sato, with a vision to bring the authentic flavors of Japan to the people of Portland. Today, our restaurant is owned and operated by Rattanak Tray, a skilled sushi chef with over 30 years of experience. Under his guidance, Yosaku has become a beloved institution in the city, known for its premium quality sushi, traditional Japanese dishes, and exceptional service.

Our Services

Our lunch menu features an extensive selection of sushi, sashimi, and traditional Japanese dishes, including tempura, katsu-don, udon, and soba noodles. Our dinner menu is equally impressive, with premium quality steak, pork, and chicken, as well as sushi-grade salmon, shrimp, and scallops, teppan-grilled to perfection.

We also offer an impressive selection of sake and Japanese whisky, as well as a rotating selection of local craft beers on tap. Our 100% buckwheat soba noodles are made daily in-house, using buckwheat grown in Aroostook county. Whether you prefer to dine at the sushi bar, at a table, or in our tranquil Japanese garden with waterfall, we have the perfect setting for every occasion.

About Our Chef

Our head chef, Rattanak Tray, has been a sushi chef for over 30 years, and has been with Yosaku since its inception. He is passionate about sharing his skills and vision for Yosaku with new customers and longtime patrons, and takes great pride in every dish that leaves the kitchen.
