Michael Hallahan, the founder of FinePrints, has been passionate about visual arts since his youth. He started with traditional mediums such as graphite, charcoal, and pastels before discovering the magic of the darkroom and print making process. His journey led him to work in a professional photo lab, where he honed his skills in black and white printing and went on assignments to create commercial work. Over the years, he has had the privilege of assisting renowned photographers such as Story Litchfield (Hinkley) and Bruce Cassaday (Rolex, Buick), further enriching his knowledge and experience in the field.

In 1999, Michael established FinePrints, which initially functioned as a custom darkroom creating archival black and white fiber prints for discerning photographers. As technology advanced, the darkroom at FinePrints evolved, but Michael's commitment to photography as a service and an art form remained steadfast. He believes that winter, traditionally a slower time for business, offers him the chance to explore new creative avenues, take risks, and grow as a photographer, resulting in his best work of the year.

"Dance has become a significant part of my work in recent years, " Michael shares. "I never anticipated how much I would enjoy photographing dancers, but it has proven to be incredibly rewarding. Collaborating with someone as passionate about their art as I am about mine brings a unique sense of fulfillment."

• Photography Classes: We offer photography classes for beginners and intermediates through Orono, Old Town, and Hampden Adult Education. Private lessons and studio rentals are also available upon request.
