Masterpiece Staircase & Millwork was founded in 1987 by a custom homebuilder who was dissatisfied with the quality and design of staircases in Charlotte, North Carolina. What started as a solution for one homebuilder evolved into a full-service staircase design, fabrication, and installation company serving the Southeast. From simple straight basement stairs to complex circular and spiral stairs with custom wrought iron designs, the company has tackled a wide range of staircase projects.

Throughout its history, Masterpiece has been driven by a commitment to quality and innovation. In 2005, the company was purchased by a new owner and renamed Masterpiece Staircase & Millwork to better reflect its focus. This change enabled significant investments in new equipment and machinery, enhancing the company's custom design capabilities and production quality. In 2006, Masterpiece was recognized as North Carolina's Small Business of the Year by Business NC Magazine.
