Building a Life-Long Love of Learning Through Play
Growing Seeds Preschool is a full-day daycare and preschool located in the Lincoln Park/De Paul/Lakeview neighborhood, serving children between 2 and 5 years old. At Growing Seeds, we believe in nurturing young minds through a creative and expressive environment. We are committed to encouraging self-expression, mistake-making, and exploration, all through play-based activities, storytelling, music, and art.
Building a Life-Long Love of Learning Through Play
At Growing Seeds, we understand that the classroom is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to a child's development. We believe that learning is formed not only within the classroom but also within a family's distinct values and culture. That's why we strive to involve you, the parents, in your child's education, through feedback, communication, and shared teaching tools and insights.
Our well-rounded curriculum touches on all aspects of your child's development, including cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. Our teachers are specially trained to facilitate this curriculum and understand each child's learning style. We prepare customized daily lesson plans for each of our learners, ensuring that learning is tailor-fit to your child's needs.
Our Space and Programs
Our space is designed and furnished with children in mind. We have designated areas for quiet and active play, reading, arts, sensory and pretend play. The equipment and toys have been carefully selected to facilitate learning and achieve curriculum goals.
We offer a variety of programs, including a regular school year, drop-in care, and a summer program. Our regular school year runs for 36 weeks from September to June, with rolling enrollment and reservation available. Our summer program is a 10-week program with a different theme and weekly field trips to neighborhood splash pads.
We are committed to providing a play-based approach, balancing open-ended play and structured play. Play helps develop social skills, self-regulation and cognitive flexibility. Academic learning naturally follows as kids gain confidence in how to interact in their surroundings. Our teachers help students be kindergarten ready!
Our Capacity and Potty-Training
Our class will have 16 students at most at a given time, with a 1 staff to 8 children ratio. We understand that each child has their own timeline in learning how to use the toilet. Once we notice signs of readiness from your child, we will let you know, so you can start potty-training at home.
Meet Our Founder
My name is Claudine David, an Early Childhood Education teacher and a parent of two boys myself. I have always loved teaching and spending time with young children. It has been my dream to start a school with teachers that share the same philosophy we have here at Growing Seeds Preschool. Teaching young children is not always about fun and games, although there are certainly lots of it! Teaching young children involves consistent messages and encouragement. It is about coming up with creative activities that allow children to express that little voice inside them that's just waiting to be heard. It requires teachers to be fully-engaged in observing children's actions and behaviors, particularly those of toddlers, who are still learning how to talk! It definitely takes a lot of patience, understanding, creativity and a lot of energy to work with young children every day. We absolutely love our work!
