Our History

Our story began in 1914 when Anthony F. Matt established the Matt Funeral Home on the corner of Third Avenue and Bleecker Street in East Utica. As the Italian, Lebanese, and Syrian population began to increase, there was a need for mortuary services in Anthony's neighborhood and those adjacent. Understanding the religious and cultural values of these people, he was able to provide them with compassionate and respectable service. Over the years, our funeral home has continued to evolve, moving to a bigger location in East Utica and eventually transferring ownership to John L. Matt Sr. and his wife Grace (Jean). Today, John L. Matt Jr. continues the family legacy, providing exceptional funeral services to families in Central New York.
